Deep-water Grouper - Presentation
Deep-water Grouper - Draft Document
The Deep-water Grouper complex is comprised of the Warsaw, Snowy, Yellowedge, and Speckle Hind Groupers. The Yellowedge makes up a super majority of the annual harvested allocation. Like the Shallow-water, the Deep-water complex is managed all together. The Scientific Statistical Committee (SSC) recommends reducing the either complex allowable harvest. Considering the Yellowedge makes up for the majority of the harvest, and is not overfished but experiencing overfishing, and the rarity of the catch of some of the species the SSC came to this conclusion.
Because of the age of the data and the uncertainty in what the recreational sector is catching the Gulf Council has expanded the list of alternatives for sector specific allocations and catch limits as well as the recreational accountability measures.
As the Gulf Council works through the evolutions of the draft document we will keep you updated and go into the Actions after the January 2025 Gulf Council meeting.
